Strawberry picking spots for the grandkids?

All this strawberry talk has me thinking. The grandkids are coming up for the long weekend and I want to take them somewhere to pick their own. We did it once a few years back and they still talk about it. Are any of the farms open yet for picking or am I too early? Hermitage/Sharon/Greenville area, I'll drive anywhere reasonable.

Hartman's Berry Farm out by Mercer is usually open by early June if the weather cooperates. The kids love it because they can see the fields. Reedurban's in Hermitage has a stand too but I don't think they let you pick. Worth a call first either way... last year they ran out of berries by mid-morning on Saturdays!

The little ones are going to have such a good time!! Strawberry season here is short so do not wait too long. Bring a sun hat for them and maybe a wagon if you have one, the rows are longer than they look when you are dragging a tired 4 year old back to the car!! Also bring more containers than you think you need... you will fill them. :)
