Memorial Day traditions around here... what should I be doing?

Going into my 3rd Memorial Day in Sharon and I still feel like I am missing the local traditions. Back where we came from it was mostly just the parade and a backyard cookout. Is there a particular ceremony or spot in the county that people consider the one to attend? I would like to actually pay my respects properly this year instead of just lighting the grill.

Open to driving anywhere in the county for it.

Glad you're putting some thought into it. A few things worth knowing if you're new to the area: the ceremony at Hermitage Memorial Cemetery is usually the most attended one, the Sharon parade has been going on for over 80 years, and the VFW posts around the county all do something for the day. If you want to keep doing something meaningful after the weekend, the volunteer organizations that work with veterans always need help year-round. Welcome to a community that takes this seriously.

Thanks everyone. We ended up going to the parade in Mercer and then a small cookout at the house. The parade really was the right call - exactly the kind of thing I would have driven right past not knowing about. Appreciate the suggestions.
