Memorial Day weekend plans?

I can't believe it's almost here already. We've never really had a "tradition" for Memorial Day weekend other than going to the cemetery to pay respects, but now that I'm retired I want to actually make a day of it. Is anything happening locally that weekend? Parades, ceremonies, anything family-friendly? Grove City area but I'd drive anywhere in the county. Also if you have somewhere you go every year I'd love to hear it.

The Mercer borough ceremony at the courthouse is always meaningful. The American Legion and VFW posts put it on, usually starts around 11. Hermitage has one too and Sharon does their own at the riverfront. If you've never been to the Avenue of 444 Flags at Hillcrest Memorial Park that's worth a trip any time of year but especially that weekend, every flag represents one of the hostages from the Iran crisis. A lot of people don't know that history.

We are doing the parade on Main Street in Greenville and then a cookout at my sisters... I just love that whole weekend!! The town really shows up for it. Hoping the weather holds.

Nothing fancy here. I told my husband I want to take a long drive somewhere up toward Volant and just poke around the shops up there. Maybe a picnic if it cooperates. We always end up at a parade somewhere too.

We always do the cemetery first thing on Monday morning... then back to my place for a big cookout. I make way too much food every year and somehow it all disappears lol. Already starting to think about what salads to make.
